Support our work in protecting, preserving and enhancing the islands heritage for future generations
Since the Bardsey Island Trust was formed in 1979 people’s donations have meant we’ve been able to look after the buildings and nature on Enlli. Donations have enabled us to offer opportunities for young people to visit the island, support our work in hosting weekly Chaplains to keep the spiritual heritage alive and protected the Brenda Chamberlain murals in Carreg. Your donations help to protect the incredible dark skies above the island, retaining our designation as the first Dark Sky Sanctuary in Europe.
As a National Nature Reserve, and Site of Special Scientific Interest your donations can help support us to:
- Protect and maintain the Grade II listed buildings and archeological sites of importance
- Provide creative residency opportunities for emerging artists
- Engage in farming to benefit the island’s diverse habitats
- Encourage people to visit the island as a place of natural beauty and pilgrimage

Brenda Chamberlain Murals Project - Carreg Fawr
Thanks to donations and fundraising by the Friends of Brenda Chamberlain Murals we have been able to rescue the striking and internationally culturally significant Murals in Carreg from being lost forever.
Brenda Chamberlain is one of Wales’ most celebrated artists. A poet, writer and painter Brenda Chamberlain lived on Bardsey Island for 15 years in the 1950s. Many of these years were spent in Carreg Fawr where several walls now contain large murals painted by Chamberlain.
Thanks to many donations, and now thanks to the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, we have been able to have some excellent conservators, Jane Foley and Inez who have undertaking painstaking work to restore and protect these murals.

Supporting local disadvantaged young people
Empowering young people facing homelessness, vulnerability and disadvantage through residential stays on Enlli.
Working in partnership with GIDSA, a local charity supporting young people in Gwynedd, we have hosted several trips over to Enlli for groups. Each trip included activities with the Wardening team, an opportunity to take part in a creative workshop with an artist in resident and a meditation session. The group enjoyed a guided nature walk with the Bird Observatory team, and helped out with some volunteering tasks.
These trips give these young people the opportunity for a digital detox and a chance to breath and experience the wildlife of Enlli. Offering a much needed respite from the challenges of everyday life these young people face.
