Help sustain the island by becoming a volunteer

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2025

Volunteering is a unique opportunity to experience life on an island and support the work of the Bardsey Island Trust in maintaining the land and buildings of the island. You will join an energetic team of staff on Enlli. There are long- and short-term opportunities available from March until October.

More information on what volunteering on Enlli is like is provided in this Volunteer Pack. Please read through this pack before you make an application.

In return for free accommodation, we ask for around 5 hours of work a day, 5 days of the week. Give it a go and apply today!

Pre-season Volunteers

Feb – March

We are looking for individuals or a group of volunteers to come and help with getting the accommodation ready for the holiday season.

There’s a great deal of cleaning to do, as well as painting and preparing the rooms; you are welcome to apply for a week or longer.

Please choose ‘Pre-Season’ in the Application Form and enter preferred dates. (Saturday to Saturday).

There is a higher chance of the boats not running regularly in March due to weather, so please be prepared to be flexible.

Long-term volunteers

Feb – Oct

This is an excellent opportunity to get a taste of island life during the busy spring-summer months.

You will help the team to maintain the houses, gardens and public areas to a high standard for visitors and staying guests. You will help the Accommodation Wardens on changeover days and in the gardens, and assist the Island Manager with land work and maintenance tasks.

We are looking for enthusiastic, hard working volunteers. Suitable for individuals or a couple willing to share a room.

Post-season volunteers

October

We are looking for volunteers who wish to join the island’s team in October. We are looking for individuals or a group of volunteers to come and help closing the accommodation down after the holiday season. There’s a great deal of cleaning to do, as well as painting and packing up furniture and sheets etc. ready for winter.

You are welcome to apply for a week or two weeks.

Know before you go

Wednesday – arrive – meet wardens and settle into accommodation,
Thursday – Work with the Island Manager on land work and maintenance tasks.
Friday – day off
Saturday – Changeover with Accommodation Wardens
Sunday – day off
Monday – Work on tasks set by Island Manager
Tuesday – Work with Accommodation Wardens in the gardens
Wednesday – Work with the Island Manager on land work and maintenance tasks.

Typical tasks include painting windows, signs and gates, grass cutting and collecting, weeding cobbles, maintaining the orchard, clearing and cutting paths on the mountainside, woodworking and beach cleans.
