The Trust was formed in 1978 and purchased the island in 1979. We will celebrate 50 years of stewardship with a robust strategy, business plan and vision for a sustainable future.

The Trust has up to 18 Trustees which meet 5 times a year as well as several committees which support and enable the work of the Trust. The Trust also employs at any point up to nine members of staff.

As a registered charity the Trust works to:

• Protect the wildlife and delicate ecosystem of the island for future generations
• Encourage people to visit the island as a place of natural beauty and pilgrimage
• Undertake scientific study and educational programmes
• Protect the buildings and archaeological sites
• Promote the artistic, language, heritage and cultural life of the island
• Engage in new sustainable farming practices to benefit the island’s diverse habits.

The Trust’s Chair is Alun Llwyd and the Vice Chair is Menna Jones.

We now hope to expand our Board by recruiting new members.

This process will coincide with the launch of the Trust’s new long-term Strategy in the next few weeks and therefore we are looking for people with skills, experience and/or interest in the following fields:

Buildings
This could cover everything from building experience or project management, to knowledge on property legalities, to building sustainability, to risk management. Ideally we would be looking for someone with management experience or construction / technical knowledge at a housing association or another organisation working in that field.

Local and National Government
Experience and knowledge of local Government – particularly in Gwynedd – as well as experience and knowledge of Senedd workings and community development

Legal / HR
Legal/contractual experience. HR experience or access to that experience would also be beneficial.

Agriculture
Experience of conservation farming and of organisations/funders relevant to agriculture and conservation.

Ymddiriedolaeth Ynys Enlli has core values ​​and aims that reflect an inclusive Wales through our governance, content, actions and partnerships. To further implement these aims we welcome applications particularly from sectors of the community that have historically not been adequately represented at Board/Council level: specifically people with protected characteristics, especially women, people from minority ethnic communities, trans and non-binary people, and Deaf and Disabled people. We also welcome applications from young people that may not have previous Council / Board experience

This is a voluntary role but travel costs are covered when relevant. The Council meets five times a year face to face in the Gwynedd area and one annual Trustees’ Away Day on the island. Trust meetings are conducted through the medium of Welsh with translation service provided. We expect Trustees to be present for at least three of these meetings, anchored to engage with Trust papers and communications between meetings. Trustees are appointed for a four-year term.
