Dark Sky 08.04.25

Sky Events on Pen Llyn

As part of celebrating our Dark Sky Sanctuary status, and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, we held several mobile planetarium sessions across the Llŷn Peninsula in October. The night sky was projected up onto the dome ceiling of the mobile planetarium, meaning regardless of cloud coverage outside people were able to learn about different constellations, their names and mythology.

A weathered wooden barn stands under a clear night sky filled with stars, echoing the timeless charm preserved by the Bardsey Island Trust.

These sessions took place in Rhoshirwaun, Plas Heli and Canolfan Nefyn. Over 200 people came along to these, including 100 primary school students and 40 people from a local day centre for individuals with additional needs.

In February this year we’ll be holding a short series of creative workshops for young people in Gwynedd between the ages of 16-25 focused on the Dark Skies. If you know anyone in the area interested in joining these please contact gwenllian@enlli.org. With thanks to Gwynedd Council for funding these activities.
